[Abk. NTP, dt. »Netzwerkzeitprotokoll«], ein Internetprotokoll zur Synchronisation der Uhren von Rechnern. Es soll erstens die korrekte Zeit von einem oder mehreren Time Servern an einen Client weitergeben und zweitens die Frequenz der Uhren von Server und Client synchronisieren. Mit der ersten Funktion wird sichergestellt, dass die Uhren im Netzwerk immer mit einer Referenzuhrzeit (der »Universal Coordinated Time«, UTC) übereinstimmen, mit der zweiten, dass sie mit gleicher Frequenz vorrücken, d. h. im gleichen Rhythmus »ticken«. Als Time Server dient in Mitteleuropa das DFC-77-Signal der Physikalisch-Technischen Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig.
 
 
Das PTB-Signal lässt sich auch nutzen, um die Systemuhr des eigenen Rechners mit der genauen Zeit zu koordinieren. Einzelheiten unter.
